Unframed, Stretched or Framed?

We offer our canvas prints in three forms of canvas medium. Each form is printed on the same high-grade artist canvas and with the same high-grade inks.

Here is a brief description of each of the forms:

  • Unframed – these are limp canvas prints that are shipped in mailing tubes. The advantages are economy in shipping rates and your ability to stretch or frame these to your own taste. You may, at your discretion, request a certain amount of free canvas edge surrounding your print so that you can get the print more easily stretched or framed.
  • Stretched – these prints are stretched over gallery stretcher bars. That means that they are ready to be placed in the frame of your choice, or they may be displayed just as they are, stretched yet not framed. Stretched prints are availble in 8×10, 11×14, 16×20, and 22×28.
  • Framed – these prints are stretched as above and then mounted in our Rio or Riviera frames. These are wooden frames and, since the prints are canvas, there is no transparancy covering these prints. Canvas prints are best displayed without any covering whatsoever. Framed prints are available in 8×10, 11×14, 16×20 and 22×28.

Paper or Canvas?

Please be guided by these considerations in deciding between using a paper or canvas medium for your image reproduction:

  • Paper will provide a clearer, more precise reproduction of the image, but will lack any particular depth.
  • Canvas, due to its texture, will give a richer look, a more classic feel; but there will be some degredation of clarity due to the textured nature of real artist canvas.
  • Paper as a medium will not have the length of life that canvas will. This is due to the nature of the product.
  • Proper framing of your image will require a glass cover if the medium is done in paper. Canvas, on the other hand, requires no glass and should be framed without any protective cover.
